Root Canal
(Endontic Therapy)
Root Canal Treatment Sydney
Teeth can become damaged through disease or trauma and the patient may subsequently require a root canal. A root canal involves removing the infected or damaged pulp from inside the tooth, thoroughly cleaning the canals, and then filling them with a protective material to prevent future infection. The tooth is then restored with a crown or filling to regain strength and functionality.
We understand that the idea of a root canal can feel intimidating for some patients. At our dental clinic, we take extra care to ensure that the procedure is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
What is Endodontic Therapy?
Endodontic therapy, commonly known as root canal treatment, is a procedure used to save a tooth that’s infected or badly damaged. It involves removing the infected pulp inside the tooth, thoroughly cleaning the area, and then sealing it to prevent further infection. This treatment helps relieve pain and ensures the tooth can be kept, avoiding the need for extraction. Our friendly team will make sure you’re comfortable throughout the process, so you can get back to smiling without any discomfort.
Removing the infected tissue
Following an examination, X-rays and the administration of anesthesia, our dentist will carefully remove the infected or damaged tissue from the pulp chamber and root canals.
Cleaning, shaping, filling and sealing the canal
After the removal of infected tissue, our dentist will then clean, shape, fill and seal the canal or your tooth’s root, to eliminate bacteria, prevent future infections and protect the tooth’s root from contamination.
Adding a crown
Root canal-treated teeth will often require a crown at completion as a crown is often required to restore strength and functionality to the tooth. This final step helps protect the tooth from fractures and ensures it can function like a natural tooth.

Frequently Asked
Questions
Do you accept all private health funds?
Crows Nest Dentists accepts all private health funds. We process all of the claims through HICAPS. Please speak to our friendly staff at reception before your appointment to discuss your private health and remember to present your card!
Do you perform dental X-rays onsite?
Yes! As well as with x-rays in the dental chair, we also offer on-site OPG dental X-rays, saving you the hassle of having to go to a separate X-ray clinic. These X-rays allow us to diagnose jaw problems immediately, including wisdom teeth problems, reducing the need for a second consult appointment.
What are single visit crowns?
Using CEREC technology, we can prepare and manufacture your crowns, caps and even bridges in-house. This saves you the stress of having to return for a second appointment. You also no longer have to worry about temporary crowns ever again.
Do you perform wisdom tooth extractions?
When we determine that your wisdom teeth need to be removed, an OPG is taken (x-ray that rotates around your face showing all your teeth flattened into one image). This will show the roots of the wisdom teeth and their relation to the lower jaw nerve, allowing the dentist to decide on the best way ahead. Either a referral will be made to a specialist or a simple surgery will be planned here in the chair.
